This panoramic image tracing constellations in the southern sky shows off a beautiful vista toward the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. It was recorded just last month near the city of Campos in northeastern Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. A sugar cane field from one of the historic region's local farms lies in the foreground. From left to right, the view sweeps across the Galactic Center in Sagittarius, bright stars in the tail of Scorpius, the South Celestial Pole above and right of the gap in the sugar canes, the dark Coalsack Nebula, and the Southern Cross. The closest star system, Alpha Centauri, and the giant Omega Centauri globular star cluster also shine in the starry night.
Esta imagen panorámica que traza constelaciones en el cielo austral muestra una hermosa vista hacia el centro de nuestra Galaxia Vía Láctea. Fue registrada hace apenas un mes cerca de la ciudad de Campos, en el noreste del estado de Río de Janeiro, Brasil. En primer plano se encuentra un campo de caña de azúcar de una de las fincas locales de la histórica región. De izquierda a derecha, la vista abarca el Centro Galáctico en Sagitario, brillantes estrellas en la cola de Escorpión, el Polo Celeste Sur por encima y a la derecha del espacio entre las cañas, la oscura Nebulosa Coalsack y la Cruz del Sur. El sistema estelar más cercano, Alfa Centauro, y el gigantesco cúmulo globular de estrellas Omega Centauro también brillan en esta noche estrellada.
