Would the Rosette Nebula by any other name look as sweet? The bland New General Catalog designation of NGC 2237 doesn't appear to diminish the appearance of the this flowery emission nebula. Inside the nebula lies an open cluster of bright young stars designated NGC 2244. These stars recently formed from the nebular material and their stellar "wind" has cleared a hole in the nebula's center, insulated by a layer of dust and hot gas. Ultraviolet light from the hot cluster stars causes the surrounding nebula to glow.
¿Luciría igual de bella la Nebulosa Roseta con cualquier otro nombre? La árida designación del Nuevo Catálogo General NGC 2237 no parece disminuir el aspecto de esta florida nebulosa de emisión. En su interior se encuentra el cúmulo abierto de brillantes estrellas jóvenes denominado NGC 2244. Estas estrellas se formaron recientemente a partir del material nebular, y su "viento" estelar ha despejado un hueco en el centro de la nebulosa, aislado por una capa de polvo y gas caliente. La luz ultravioleta proveniente de las calientes estrellas del cúmulo hace que la nebulosa circundante emita su característico resplandor.
