What's happening over that castle? While waiting for the Moon to rise last month in Thurso, Scotland, amateur astrophotographer Stewart Watt took a three minute exposure of the background stars. The above image was the surprising result. Patchy clouds in front of the rising moon created crepuscular rays streaming across the night sky in spectacular fashion. In the foreground is a stone tower from Thurso Castle, a 12th century fortress augmented in the 17th century. Above the crepuscular moon rays are stars, many from the constellation of the Lion (Leo). Visible to the right of the tower is the planet Saturn.
¿Qué está sucediendo sobre ese castillo? Mientras esperaba la puesta de la Luna el mes pasado en Thurso, Escocia, el fotógrafo amateur de astronomía Stewart Watt tomó una exposición de tres minutos de las estrellas del fondo. La imagen de arriba fue el resultado sorprendente. Nubes dispersas frente a la luna ascendente crearon rayos crepusculares que se extendieron a través del cielo nocturno de manera espectacular. En primer plano se encuentra una torre de piedra del Castillo de Thurso, una fortaleza del siglo XII que fue ampliada en el siglo XVII. Sobre los rayos crepusculares de la luna se encuentran estrellas, muchas de ellas pertenecen a la constelación del León (Leo). A la derecha de la torre se encuentra visible el planeta Saturno.
