As evening twilight faded on March 7, sky gazers around planet Earth enjoyed a beautiful pairing of young crescent Moon and brilliant planet Jupiter. Along with stars setting in the west, the two bright celestial beacons, Moon above and Jupiter below, leave short trails in this well-planned time exposure, a composite of 54 individual frames each 4 seconds long. On its final flight, the Space Shuttle Discovery and International Space Station form the second close pairing in the night skyscape. Still glinting in the sunlight in low Earth orbit, they gracefully trace overlapping arcs from lower right to upper left. Al desvanecerse el crepúsculo vespertino del 7 de marzo, los observadores del cielo en todo el planeta Tierra disfrutaron de una hermosa conjunción entre la joven Luna creciente y el brillante planeta Júpiter. Junto con las estrellas que se ponían en el oeste, los dos astros luminosos —la Luna en la parte superior y Júpiter en la inferior— dejaron cortos rastros en esta cuidadosamente planificada exposición temporal, un compuesto de 54 fotogramas individuales de 4 segundos cada uno. En su vuelo final, el transbordador espacial Discovery y la Estación Espacial Internacional forman el segundo par cercano en el paisaje nocturno. Aún reflejando la luz solar en órbita terrestre baja, trazan con elegancia arcos superpuestos de la parte inferior derecha a la superior izquierda.
