Although you've surely seen it, you might not have noticed it. During a cloudless twilight, just before sunrise or after sunset, part of the atmosphere above the horizon appears slightly off-color, slightly pink. Visible in the above photograph, this off-color band between the dark eclipsed sky and the blue sky can best be seen in the direction opposite the Sun and is called the Belt of Venus. Straight above, blue sky is normal sunlight reflecting off the atmosphere. In the Belt of Venus, however, the atmosphere reflects light from the setting (or rising) Sun which appears more red. The Belt of Venus can be seen from any location with a clear horizon.
Aunque sin duda lo has visto, es posible que no lo hayas notado. Durante un crepúsculo despejado, justo antes del amanecer o después del atardecer, parte de la atmósfera sobre el horizonte presenta un color ligeramente diferente, levemente rosado. Visible en la fotografía anterior, esta banda de color atípico situada entre el oscuro cielo en sombra y el cielo azul puede observarse mejor en la dirección opuesta al Sol, y recibe el nombre de Cinturón de Venus. Directamente sobre nosotros, el cielo azul corresponde a la luz solar reflejada por la atmósfera. En el Cinturón de Venus, en cambio, la atmósfera refleja la luz del Sol al ponerse (o al salir), la cual aparece más rojiza. El Cinturón de Venus puede observarse desde cualquier lugar que cuente con un horizonte despejado.
