The featured panorama is a 12-image mosaic taken last month from the Salar de Atacama salt flat in northern Chile. The calm water is Laguna Cejar, a salty lagoon featuring a large central sinkhole. On the image left, the astrophotographer's fiancee is seen capturing the same photogenic scene. The night sky is lit up with countless stars, the Large and Small Magellanic Cloud galaxies on the left, and the band of our Milky Way galaxy running diagonally up the right. Galaxias, estrellas y una tranquila superficie reflectante combinan para crear este recordado paisaje terrestre y celeste. La panorámica destacada es un mosaico de 12 imágenes tomadas el mes pasado desde el Salar de Atacama, una salina ubicada en el norte de Chile. El agua tranquila es la Laguna Cejar, una laguna salina que presenta un gran hoyo central. A la izquierda de la imagen, se ve a la prometida del fotógrafo astronómico capturando la misma escena fotogénica. El cielo nocturno está iluminado por innumerables estrellas, las galaxias Magallanes Mayor y Menor a la izquierda, y la banda de nuestra galaxia Vía Láctea que se extiende diagonalmente hacia la derecha. Aunque la Vía Láctea parece causar caos en el horizonte, esos son simplemente las luces normales de una ciudad cercana.
